The Lightning Thief

by Rick Riordan

Rated PG

Ages 10+

My tween son loves this author, and his books are pretty clean. The language is good, but watch for some violence, although it's mostly against mythological beasts, rather than people, which for some reason makes it better to me!

The Lightning Thief is the first in a series that now includes 4 books. It follows the adventures of Percy, who discovers that he is the child of a mortal mother and Poseidon, the ancient Olympian god of the sea. He sets out on a dangerous journey to catch a thief who has stolen Zeus’ master bolt - a weapon of great power. Along the way, he must defeat a host of other mythological beings determined to stop him, and learn to deal with the twin burdens of having a father he has never known, and a friend who seeks to betray him.

If your kids like this book, have them check out the others as well:

Book Two: The Sea of Monsters

Book Three: The Titan's Curse

Book Four (which I haven't read yet but assume is clean also): The Battle of the Labyrinth

clean book, clean book reviews, clean books for teens, clean children's books, clean fiction, clean reads
